This summer, MISO will turn on the anticipated storage market model switch. It has been a long journey for storage companies and renewable developers to address climate change with battery technology. With so many twists and turns for storage at MISO, it is important that CEEM members not lose heart. CEEM and its members should become active at MISO stakeholder meetings and voice their concerns for additional aggregation market opportunities.

The energy and utilities industry continues to evolve by making investments in clean energy and related technologies. As customers demand new clean energy and electric utilities adopt it, new regulations and business models are also evolving. A predictable regulatory policy that values clean energy will unleash economic opportunity.

The electrical grid that serves most Minnesotans’ homes and businesses has been evolving since the early 1900’s. Our rapidly changing clean energy transition changed a whole lot more than just how we power our homes and businesses. But all that change required plans. It’s going to take a transformation in how we plan for the clean energy future.

The legislature ended its Special Session the morning of Saturday, June 20 with little progress on major bills. The Energy Conservation and Optimization (ECO) Act failed to pass despite strong bipartisan support in both chambers, and from leadership in the Energy and Utilities Committee in the Senate. There was no deal made on a bonding bill. If passed, a bonding bill could create $350 million in energy projects at Minnesota’s public colleges and universities alone.

The electrical grid that serves most Minnesotans’ homes was built in the early 1900’s. It was constructed when renewable energy technologies were just a wisp of a dream. But our rapidly changing energy transformation has changed a whole lot more than just how we power our homes and businesses. It’s going to take a transformation in how we plan for the systems that distribute that power.
