The 2026 Minnesota Energy Factsheet shows Minnesota continuing to lead on clean energy. For the sixth consecutive year, zero‑carbon sources (renewables and nuclear) supplied a majority of Minnesota’s electricity. In 2025, these resources accounted for 55% of total generation, compared with a national average of 43%.

The 2025 Minnesota Energy Factsheet shows Minnesota continuing to lead on clean energy. For the fifth year in a row, the majority of Minnesota’s electricity is from zero-carbon sources. Power sector emissions hit a record low — down 4% from last year and 52% below 2005 levels. The state also added 388 MW of solar and ranked No. 1 in the Midwest for energy efficiency.

Minnesota has once again proven itself a leader in the clean energy transition, with the 2024 Minnesota Energy Factsheet showing that zero-carbon power generated 54% of the state’s electricity in 2023. The report, released today by Clean Energy Economy Minnesota (CEEM) and the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE), marks the fourth consecutive year that zero-carbon power has made up the majority of Minnesota’s electricity (54%), compared to the national share of carbon-free power at just 41%.
