Clean Energy Economy MN applauds bold Minnesota House action on climate
Minnesota House Climate Action Caucus proposes $191.5 million for energy efficiency and clean energy investments
MINNEAPOLIS, MINN – Clean Energy Economy MN (CEEM) applauds the bold announcement by the Minnesota House Climate Action Caucus on Monday to invest $191.5 million into combatting the state’s climate crisis. Among the proposed initiatives there is significant spending to advance energy efficiency measures in our public schools, nursing homes, commercial buildings and for homeowners, as well as support for solar, electric vehicles, emerald ash borer disposal and more. CEEM Executive Director Gregg Mast released the following statement in support of today’s announcement:
“CEEM is pleased to see today’s proposal by the House Climate Action Caucus that prioritizes critical investments in climate solutions,” said Gregg Mast, executive director of CEEM. “As the threats posed by climate risk continues to increase, we encourage policymakers on both sides of the aisle to support investments that will accelerate the development of clean energy jobs and innovations that benefit Minnesota businesses, communities, and our overall economy.”
The House has scheduled a hearing this Thursday to dive into the details of this significant investment proposal. The following items are all included in the House proposal:
Energy Efficiency
$30 million for homeowners
$20.5 million for public schools
$20 million for nursing homes
$15 million for commercial buildings
Solar
$16 million for public schools
$10 million for homeowners
Transportation
$20 million for electric school buses
$20 million for electric public transit buses
$15 million for electric vehicle rebates
Local Government
$5 million for planning
$5 million for solid waste diversion
$5 million for new technology demonstrations
Environment
$6.5 million for conservation
$2.5 million local EAB disposal
$1 million for natural carbon sequestration research
