Melina Bartels, Associate at Bloomberg New Energy Finance
An Associate on BloombergNEF’s power team, Melina Bartels spearheads the North America mid and long-term power system forecasting and asset valuation efforts. Prior to BNEF, she worked in advisory services, focusing on asset valuation and transactions. Melina graduated from Dartmouth College with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and B.A. in Earth Sciences
Aditya Ranade, PhD, Deputy Commissioner of the Division of Energy Resources at the Minnesota Department of Commerce
Aditya Ranade is Deputy Commissioner of the Division of Energy Resources at the Minnesota Department of Commerce. He joined the Commerce Department in 2020 and oversees utility rates and planning, conservation improvement program, energy market transformation, emerging energy technologies, and energy equity programs.
Prior to joining the Commerce Department, Aditya founded two start-ups; Two Degrees Adapt- a technology advisory in climate adaptation and Aerio Technologies- a decision analytics provider for renewable natural gas development. Before that, he led global smart grid R&D at 3M, led building energy efficiency practices at Lux Research and developed solar panel materials for Saint-Gobain. He has authored reports on topics such as building integrated photovoltaics, building energy efficiency policy in G-20 countries, and climate adaptation technologies which have been cited by publications such as Financial Times and Asian Power.
Aditya holds a B.E. (Polymer Engineering) from University of Pune, a Ph.D. (Macromolecular Science) from Case Western Reserve University, MBA from Babson College and a Certificate in “Triplomacy: Energy, Environment and Security” from Tufts University Fletcher School. Aditya grew up in Rajapur- a small town on the west coast of India. He lives in Shoreview with his wife and two children.
Brad Heitland, Business Development Executive, Solar & Emerging Renewables, Mortenson
As Business Development Executive, Brad discovers and develops new business in all solar energy market sectors. He positions the Solar & Emerging Renewables Group for future business opportunities and fosters relationships with new and established customers. Additionally, he is active in developing new services for our partners, including project finance solutions. Brad is part of the group’s leadership team that manages our multi-faceted approach to business development, strategic planning and market sector analysis for the renewable energy markets of Mortenson.
Ken Smith, President & CEO of Ever-Green Energy
Kenneth W. Smith, PE, MBA, was named president and CEO of Ever-Green Energy in August 2010. He is also the president and CEO of its affiliate District Energy St. Paul. Prior to joining District Energy in 2006, Ken worked for over 20 years consulting, designing, and implementing energy projects globally for a variety of industries. He is a regular contributor to conferences, studies, legislative initiatives and task forces and a frequent speaker nationally and internationally on energy trends, renewable energy, energy conservation and integrated energy systems. Ken also serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the International District Energy Association. Ken has led Ever-Green Energy’s planning and design initiatives with numerous U.S. communities and organizations, with the goal of creating integrated energy infrastructures. Ken has a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from North Dakota State University and a MBA from the University of St. Thomas. He is a registered professional engineer in several states.
Becky Wacker, Area General Manager, Trane Commercial HVAC North America
Becky Wacker leads Trane’s equipment, contracting, and service business for Minnesota and Western Wisconsin as the Area General Manager. Her teams are keenly focused on partnering with building professionals to employ sustainable and energy efficient solutions for our community’s buildings.
In addition to business leadership, Becky also has extensive experience with leveraging Building Automation, Systems Integration, and AI-Powered SaaS solutions to create healthy and energy efficient healthcare, education, commercial real estate, and sports venues.
Becky has a degree in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics from the University of Minnesota, where she won two NCAA Division I championships as a member of the women’s hockey team.
