Introducing Mikaela Isaacson - Communications and Policy Intern
I am Mikaela Isaacson, and I am ecstatic to be Clean Energy Economy MN’s (CEEM) first Communications and Policy Intern. This position is at the intersection of my shared passions for communication and sustainability, making it a perfect fit for me!
This position is a great opportunity for me to learn more about clean energy, specifically the economic and policy side, an area I have been interested in learning more about for some time. It will also provide me with tremendous communication experience working with audiences that are brand new to me. In this role, I will help CEEM deliver on their mission to, “provide educational leadership, collaboration, and policy analysis that accelerates clean energy market growth and smart energy policies,” through research, content creation and strategic planning. I expect to gain a plethora of skills and knowledge from my summer with CEEM and cannot wait to dive into the work they have for me.
Originally, I am from Faribault, MN, but moved to Minneapolis in the fall of 2016, when I began my college career at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. I am entering my senior year, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in journalism with an emphasis in strategic communication and a minor in sustainability studies. Since the fall of my freshman year, I have held the position of Communications Assistant at Sustainability Education, a program under the University’s Institute on the Environment. In this position, I am responsible for the biweekly newsletter, blog posts, social media strategy and event coordination. This position brought me to the realization that a career combining sustainability and communications was a future option for me. It was also through this position that I was introduced to CEEM.
I love the work CEEM is doing to aid in the continued growth of Minnesota’s clean energy industry. It is important to me that my employer has values similar to my own, and the work the CEEM is doing assures me that they do. By bringing awareness to the economic benefits of clean energy and leading on creating smart policy, CEEM is helping keep Minnesota a leader in the clean energy industry.
Lastly, when I’m not learning in a lecture, studying or working, I enjoy spending time outdoors – whether it’s hiking, camping, playing tennis, or simply soaking up some sun. And if there are dogs involved in any of those activities, it becomes 10 times better!
