How big tech is driving sustainability in the hospitality industry
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) estimates that hotels represent more than five billion square feet of space in the US alone. Spaces that operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. With such a large footprint, sustainability needs to be top of mind, especially as society is increasingly asking for more ways to protect our resources and be more efficient with our energy use. Fortunately, great strides are being made as new technology and ideas are presenting huge opportunities to support sustainability within the hospitality industry.
Over the years, hotels have implemented water-saving programs, power conservation projects, food waste and recycling initiatives, eco-friendly building and design construction, and more. Now, thanks to technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and intelligent network power solutions, hotels can monitor and manage more devices than ever before, allowing for careful reallocation of energy resources with an intelligent, automated system. Aerohive’s Cloud Business Intelligence Platform, HiveManager, is one such solution that helps hotels to conserve and meter AP power and operation by providing management and guest device insights for Wi-Fi access points (APs) and network equipment.
To continue this discussion on promoting smart, clean, and resilient energy for hotels, Aerohive is announcing a partnership with Clean Energy Economy Minnesota (CEEM) at HITEC (a hospitality and technology showcase conference) in Minneapolis this year (you can meet them at Booth #2715). The exposition will, in part, explore the shifting technological demands of today’s hotel guests, including higher expectations for fast, smart and reliable networks. Soon, all Aerohive platforms will use machine learning, guest data, and power-intelligent APs to allow customers to limit electricity consumption when full Wi-Fi connectivity isn’t necessary. The aim – to empower the hospitality industry to make positive strides toward greater sustainability and clean technology.
